Board of Advisors
GHI's work is multi-disciplinary and international in scope, and no single person is an expert on everything we do. A critical need to fulfill our mission, therefore, is access to experts around the world whom we can turn to for advice on where and how we should perform our work. We publish the following list of people, which we call our Board of Advisors, who have recently or are currently providing us with such advice, voluntarily. This Board never meets as a whole; rather members of GHI's staff consult with the members of the Board on an as needed basis. Our intent in identifying the members of this Board is to acknowledge our deep appreciation for the advice each has given to GHI. This organization would not have accomplished what it has without their help.

"In the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, more than half a million people lost their lives. When I entered the city early in the morning after the earthquake, the city was in rubble, dust hung in the air, and survivors sat on curbs, covered with dirt and blood, in stunned silence. That scene still haunts me. I joined GHI's Board of Advisors in order to share the lessons I learned in Tangshan with others at risk around the world."

"In working with GHI on Quito's earthquake risk, I learned that engineers and scientists must work with the community's politicians, emergency response personnel, and businessmen. By serving on GHI's Board of Advisors, I can share our experience in solving problems with other communities."
