| GEOHAZARDS FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT NAMED
MACARTHUR FELLOW
GeoHazards
International (GHI) is proud to announce that its founder and
president, Dr. Brian E. Tucker, has been named as a 2002
MacArthur Fellow. In honoring Brian Tucker with what is often
called "the genius award," the MacArthur Foundation cited his
"efforts [which] have dramatically reduced the potential for
death and injury to children and others from earthquakes in
vulnerable cities around the world."
The MacArthur Fellows Program awards unrestricted fellowships to talented
individuals who have shown extraordinary originality and dedication
in their creative pursuits, and a marked capacity for self-direction.
It recognizes and supports individuals who "lift our spirits, illuminate
human potential, and shape our collective future," according to Jonathan
F. Fanton, President of the MacArthur Foundation.
GeoHazards International is also mentioned in the award,
recognized as "the only not-for profit, non-governmental agency
dedicated to preventing structural failures in developing countries."
The steadfast confidence of all GHI members, supporters and
partners in Brian's vision and support for a safer world underlies
his receipt of this award. Thank you!
We are grateful for the recognition GHI has received. The outpouring
of new interest in our work promises an even brighter future for GHI
to serve earthquake-threatened communities worldwide. We encourage new
members to join at this time and to look forward to the continued support
of our long standing benefactors.
