Board of Trustees

GHI’s  Board of Trustees is comprised of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds, including earthquake science and engineering, international development, architecture, law, finance, and urban planning. Each has longstanding, strong ties in academic, business or government sectors. 

Jeremy Isenberg

Jeremy Isenberg is a structural engineer recognized for contributions to improve performance of critical infrastructure and buildings during earthquakes and blasts. He joined the GeoHazards International Board of Trustees in 2019. Dr. Isenberg is an engineering consultant and adjunct professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. He is retired from AECOM Technologies, where he was senior principal. Prior to that he was principal, president, and CEO at Weidlinger Associates; and senior engineer at Agbabian Associates.

In 1999, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE), which cited his contributions both to protective construction and to lifeline earthquake engineering. He was elected a distinguished member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in 2007, and is a fellow of the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), which he helped to create. In 2009, ASCE honored him with its Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Lifetime Achievement Award in design. He is co-organizer of the research track for the annual ASCE/SEI Structures Congress, and is past chair of the National Construction Safety Team Advisory Committee, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that reports to Congress annually on disaster investigations. Dr. Isenberg holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in structural engineering from Cambridge University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar and a member of Peterhouse. He is a licensed Professional or Civil Engineer in five states and the author of more than 60 publications.
