Maryse Pénette-Kedar joined the GeoHazards International Board of Trustees in 2018. She is founder and president of Progress and Development (PRODEV), a nonprofit Haitian-led foundation with the mission to empower the youth of Haiti through education. She is also President of the Board of the Haitian Center for Leadership (CLE), which she founded with Haitian leaders from the political, private and civil society sectors; this innovative center’s goal is to build leadership for social change. In recognition of her many civic contributions, Mrs. Kedar received the Grand Croix, the highest honour bestowed by the Government of Haiti.
Mrs. Kedar’s career in public service spanned two decades, including positions as commercial attaché at the Embassy of Haiti in Washington, D.C. and Minister Counsellor and Chargé D’Affaires at the Haitian Embassy in Belgium, where she helped to negotiate Haiti’s entry into the Lomé Convention IV, a trade and aid agreement between the European Economic Community and African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. As Haiti’s Tourism Secretary of State, she undertook an inventory of Haiti’s natural assets and gave Haiti its first Tourism Masterplan. More recently in the private sector, she chaired the Association of Industries of Haiti. Mrs. Kedar is a consultant for Royal Caribbean International and is president of Société Labadie Nord S.A. (SOLANO), a Haitian corporation managing Royal Caribbean’s cruise port in Labadie, Cap-Haitien.
