GHI’s  staff is comprised of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds, including earthquake science, engineering, medicine, law, communications, finance and international development. 

Eric Canales is a consultant with GeoHazards International and supports the research of various ongoing projects. He is a mechanical engineer committed to promoting capacity-building in populations vulnerable to natural hazards by exploring the intersection between engineering, policy and development. He recently worked investigating the housing sector recovery in Haiti following the 2021 earthquake. Eric served two years as a community health specialist in Ecuador with the US Peace Corps, and four years as a jet engine mechanic with the US Air Force. He holds a Master of Global Affairs with a focus in Sustainable Development from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
