L. Thomas Tobin

Tom Tobin has decades of experience working with GeoHazards International in Ecuador, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Bhutan, Haiti and Indonesia on natural hazards and risk management problems. He has technical expertise in geotechnical and coastal engineering. He is past president of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and served as executive director of the California Seismic Commission from 1985-1995. Tom was instrumental in shaping new earthquake safety policies introduced after the 1989 Loma Prieta and 1994 Northridge earthquakes in the U.S., and he applies that experience in GHI projects around the world. He holds an M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering from California State University at San Jose and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
