Board of Trustees
GHI’s Board of Trustees is comprised of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds, including earthquake science and engineering, international development, architecture, law, finance, and urban planning. Each has longstanding, strong ties in academic, business or government sectors.
Ramon Gilsanz
New York, New York
Ramon Gilsanz is a founding Partner of Gilsanz Murray Steficek. In his 40-year career as a structural engineer, he has worked on a wide range of projects, constructing and renovating buildings using steel, concrete, timber, masonry, glass, and composites.
Ramon has participated on six post-earthquake investigative teams since 2010, traveling to impacted foreign countries to investigate earthquake preparedness and recovery as well as seismic code issues. Closer to home, he has participated in hurricane Sandy recovery efforts, including the NYC DOB building assessment efforts and the Urban Green Council's Building Resiliency Task Force (BRTF) to improve citywide infrastructure and building resiliency. Ramon also led the WTC7 collapse analysis on the national ASCE-FEMA building performance assessment team investigating the World Trade Center attack.
Ramon actively contributes to the structural engineering industry through leading or participating in several professional societies and committees. These include the ASCE 7-22 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures committee, several American Concrete Institute (ACI) committees, and the AISC committee on specifications.
He is currently serving as Chair of the New York City Department of Buildings’ Structural Technical Committee, a group responsible for generating the new New York City Existing Building Code.
