Jean-Brunel Pierre works on GeoHazards International’s earthquake and tsunami preparedness projects in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He is a licensed Haitian civil engineer based in Cap-Haitien on the north coast. Though his city was unaffected by the 2010 earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince, he went there to help disaster victims and support the relief effort. This experience sharpened his commitment to reduce the damaging impacts of natural hazards. He has worked to inform people about earthquake safe construction, and advocated for improved implementation and compliance with the Haitian building code. Mr. Pierre has a B.S. in civil engineering from Université Américaine des Sciences Modernes d'Haïti and additional certificates of training in Earthquake Construction Technique for Small Buildings and Application of Seismic Construction Standards. A native of Haiti, he speaks French, Haitian Creole, English and Spanish.
