Giving Before Disasters Saves Lives

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

This year has been distressing for everyone, with harsh challenges in the countries where we work. Earthquakes, landslides and tropical storms continue to impact people worldwide, but now these events coincide with the pandemic.

A program in Haiti focuses on students promoting resilience to coastal hazards and

COVID-19.

Disasters are on the rise worldwide, and the poor suffer the most. Simply reacting to disasters does not address the root of the problem. That’s why we focus on taking action before disasters.

Supporters like you understand that this is the most effective approach, especially in places where people stand to lose everything. Consider the impact:

Our close-knit and diverse team has been crucial this year. Despite COVID-19 challenges, locally-based native staff in five countries were able to move efforts forward, and our long-term relationships with communities have endured.

Donations like yours make a big difference. They make up over 30% of our revenue. But this year, as COVID-19 has become frightening on both a personal and global scale, we are facing a significant shortfall in fundraising.

Please contribute today at www.geohaz.org/donate. Your gift allows us to work closely with people in underserved communities and to invest in disaster resilience efforts for the long term.

On behalf of the GeoHazards International team worldwide, I send you and your loved ones warm wishes for a healthy and safe 2021.

With Gratitude,

Veronica Cedillos, President and CEO
