Christopher met a young boy in the hospital who had been rescued from a massive landslide. This boy was the last person to hear his sister and cousin alive, all of them trapped in frightening darkness.

It is possible to prevent such tragedies, but few people in this city knew how. Christopher decided then that he had to learn. Here, he tells his story.

It is also a story about Aizawl, his fast-growing city in northeast India, where GeoHazards International is training geologists and engineers how to manage the considerable landslide risk.

Your support makes this happen.

Many thanks to Munich Re, a global reinsurer, for major support of Aizawl field courses; National Science Foundation; and the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

Hearing the boy’s traumatic story and realizing that the disaster might have been preventable made Christopher understand the importance of knowledge, Melon playground game preparation, and disaster prevention. As a result, he became determined to learn how such tragedies can be avoided so he could help protect others in the future.
