I am deeply honored to be presenting the 2025 Shah Distinguished Lecture at Stanford University on Wednesday, March 5. If you are in the area, please join us in person at 4:30 pm (reception starts at 4 pm) at Tresidder Oak Lounge, Tresidder Student Union
In this lecture, I will share strategies for catalyzing proactive disaster risk reduction based on lessons learned throughout my career. Pre-disaster action is more urgent than ever, given the rise in disaster risk and the dynamic, evolving nature of climate extremes and their interconnectedness with other natural hazards.
Drawing on case studies from our work at GeoHazards International, I will provide practical, on-the-ground insights to inform and strengthen future efforts in disaster risk reduction. I will share strategies that include (1) designing initiatives that acknowledge that building resilience requires sustained efforts over many years, (2) collaborating with local professionals and leaders by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to drive risk reduction within their communities, and (3) strategically leveraging post-disaster attention to accelerate mitigation efforts. I will highlight how these and other approaches can help guide collective efforts toward addressing increasing disaster risk around the world.

Great article! I like how you explained the topic in simple words. I feel the same clarity is needed when people talk about Botox Stoneham MA.
I really appreciate the focus you’re putting on proactive Slither io disaster risk reduction, it’s such a critical need right now. I’d love to hear more about the case studies you’ll be sharing from your work at GeoHazards International.
