Investing Locally to Stay Ahead of Disasters

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

A Conversation with Our Team Members in Bhutan and North Eastern India

Please join GeoHazards International’s President, Veronica Cedillos, for an interactive session with Yeshey Lotay in Thimphu, Bhutan and Lalrinpuii Tlau in Aizawl, India. This is the second in our Voices from the Field series. To view prior talks go here.

Both Yeshey and Lalrinpuii live in mountainous cities prone to earthquakes, landslides, and increasingly extreme weather events. These events could isolate people for weeks, with damage to roads, bridges, buildings, water supply, and power systems. Blocked roads would cut off access to critical services, including the single airport serving each city.

You will hear first-hand how Yeshey and Rinpuii are tackling these challenges in their regions together with local government and community leaders.

Bhutan is a small nation in the Himalaya, and Aizawl is the capital of Mizoram state in North Eastern India.
